Wind Wheel Assembly

Posthole digger, spade shovel, or auger One (1) sack of fast-curing cement (available through local home improvements stores such as Lowes or Home Depot)

Tools provided

  • Allen wrenches
  • Torpedo level
  • Wind flow dowel plug with tape

Ground Pin Installation

After determining placement use a post hole digger and dig a hole approximately 12-16” deep and 8 “diameter.

***WARNING*** – PRIOR TO DIGGING CONFIRM NO UNDERGROUND UTILITY LINES ARE PRESENT. STRIKING ANY UTILITY LINE COULD CAUSE PROPERTY DAMAGE, INJURY, OR DEATH. BEST PRACTICE IF YOU ARE UNSURE IS TO CONTACT LOCAL UNTILITY PROVIDER, (gas, water, electric) FOR LINE LOCATIONS. THIS SERVICE IS USUALLY AVAILABLE THROUGH YOUR UTILITY PROVIDER OR CITY/COUNTY INSPECTORS.

Mix fast-setting concrete per mfg. direction and fill the hole to within 1 inch of the top of the ground. Immediately insert provided ground pin in the center of the hole such that the cross pin is slightly above the concrete. Use a provided torpedo level to plumb the ground pin on opposite sides. This is important as you want the ground pin to be plumb (vertically) all around. If not, this could affect the wind wheel performance.

Allow full cure before final installation. Although the fast curing instructions may indicate full cure in a very short time it is recommended to wait 24 hours before completing installation.

Shaft Installation

Installing Wheel

NOTE: Your Wind Wheel is shipped with the wheel assemblies reversed or turned inward to reduce the size of the shipping container. After removing one face of the container remove the bolt holding the wheels and axle, then remove the wooden cross support. Carefully lift the assembly out of the container and set it aside.

Thank you you purchasing a Spirit as Wind sculpture.

Location

Wind Wheels are driven by wind and where you locate it makes a big difference in its performance. Be mindful of placing your Wind Wheel in proximity to other objects such as buildings, trees, etc. as these objects can block needed wind flow. To test for optimal placement, we recommend defining the area you’re considering and using the sculpture shaft(s) supplied. Place the supplied wood dowel with long tape attached to the top of the shaft and move it around your chosen area to find the wind sweet spot.

Most problems associated with motionless wheels come from insufficient wind flow and not hardware issues or failures.
